Teaching and learning have begun at Kitsong

Wednesday, the first school day of 2015, was greeted by excited students and enthusiastic teachers. The day began with students receiving their 7 inch tablets in the first lesson and teaching started immediately. Children logged on to Moodle, downloaded and installed educational apps and uploaded pictures for their Moodle profiles. Great fun was had by all.

7 new students were enrolled by Thursday morning and learning continued. Silent reading, an English comprehension and Maths quiz were done and the students received immediate feedback. By the end of the day they had read Setswana on their tablets and headed home with Setswana homework, a couple of reading books, Maths revision quizzes and an Information Technology programming app. – all on their tablets.

There is an energy and passion for learning that I have seldom experienced in my 20+ years of teaching. I am unsure whether this comes from being at a new school, teaching via a medium to which young teenagers relate or whether the teachers and students are just amazing. Whatever the reason, Kitsong looks set to take education in Phokeng to a new height.
